Help and questions
Quick answers about how ShipmentTrail works.
What is ShipmentTrail?
ShipmentTrail is a free tool that helps you reach the right tracking page. You enter a number, we work out which carrier it belongs to, and we send you to that carrier's own tracking page. We do not track shipments ourselves.
Where does the tracking information come from?
From the carrier's own website. We open or show their page, so you always see their latest information. ShipmentTrail does not store, check or change what the carrier shows. If the information looks wrong or is missing, please ask the carrier.
The carrier says my number was not found. Why?
The most common reasons are: the shipment is very new and the carrier has not recorded it yet (it can take a day or two); the number has a typo (we warn you when the check digit looks wrong); the carrier needs a different kind of number, such as a booking number instead of a bill of lading, or a master air waybill instead of a house one; or the shipment is old and the carrier no longer keeps it.
What is an air waybill number?
It is the 11-digit number on an air cargo shipment, usually written like 176-12345675. The first three digits identify the airline, the next seven are the serial number, and the last digit is a check digit that catches typing mistakes.
Which numbers work for sea freight?
Container numbers (four letters and seven digits, such as MSKU1234565) and bill of lading numbers. We use the first four characters to find the shipping line. Booking numbers cannot be recognised automatically: choose the shipping line yourself and paste the number into its page.
Which postal numbers work?
International postal numbers in the standard 13-character format: two letters, nine digits and a two-letter country code, such as RR123456785CN. Numbers from a courier or a country's domestic service are not supported. Once an item reaches another country, try that country's postal operator too: pick it from the list on the results page.
Why am I asked to paste my number on the carrier's site?
Some carriers' pages cannot take a number from a link. When that happens we copy your number for you, tell you, wait a few seconds and then open the carrier's page, where you paste it into their form.
The carrier's page did not open.
Your browser may have blocked the new tab. Use the "Didn't open?" link we show, or allow pop-ups for this site. Safari is the strictest, so there you may need to press "Go now".
My carrier is not listed.
We add carriers one at a time, after checking their tracking link in a real browser. Tell us which one is missing on the contact page and we will look at it.
A carrier's link does not work.
Use the "Report a problem with this link" link next to the carrier. It opens an email to us, already filled in with the carrier's name and how its link is built, and never your number.
Which languages are supported?
English, Arabic and Simplified Chinese. Use the menu at the top to switch. The Arabic and Chinese texts are still being checked by native speakers, so tell us if something reads badly.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
It is free, has no ads and needs no account.
